ReVamped by Ada Adams

Synopsis:

A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

My Review

4 Stars

I chose to read this book solely upon it's cover. After all I'm a cover whore and this one is at the top of the pack. I mean the backward "R" to me is definitely a nice touch. ReVamped was nothing like what I expected it to be going in and it was a great change for the YA vampire genre I believe. The aspects Ada ties into her plot and characters all have a new twist on the old school favorite. I loved Dawn, Sebastian and Ada's group of misfit vampires. Yes, I didn't mention Ethan because as much as I want to like him (and I know Dawn does), I'm just not sure. Starting out I wasn't sure where Dawn's journey was going to take her and throughout the entire book, I never knew. The epic twist towards the end made me literally take a moment to think about what just happened. Oh and I laughed because I was just so surprised. But Dawn has this sense of duty and responsibility about her that is commendable and ReVamped is like a story about her real "first" chance at living. I'm glad I read her story and that Ada invited us to share her journey. But I must mention Sebastian who is swoon worthy and proved his weight in gold. Even though for a while there, I was worried about whose side he was playing for or if he was just going to be some distraction of Dawn's. The dynamics of the relationships between all the characters and their situation and back-story's, I feel like Ada got it right. The friendly teasing banter was spot on, as were the moments that called for more. Yeah, you know the ones. The one's that clench your heart in their grasp and refuse to let go until you read enough to know what happens. However, in ReVamped I feel safe in saying, you won't see what's coming.

About this awesome author

I'm just like anyone else. I have everyday problems that never seem to go away and I bury myself in a good book when I need an escape. My second escape would be writing. I love the paranormal and everything I write seems to revolve around something paranormal. Some of my best ideas come from sitting and just talking to a friend (or two) and then they just pop up. Never underestimate the ability to get an idea from an everyday situation.

The Domino Effect Review & Giveaway

Synopsis

Twenty-one-year-old college student and aspiring journalist Nancy Delaney’s nose for news smells a hot story idea when it comes to international playboy and artist Peter Rostovich. But as she works to get her story, she soon becomes intimately entangled with the mysterious Rostovich, who finds her irresistible. He becomes Nancy’s ticket to sexual awakening, and she soon discovers she has an appetite for bondage, too.

And there’s far more to Rostovich than just his art — he’s involved in a strange, violent criminal underworld that kidnaps Nancy and spirits her halfway around the world, where she’s held prisoner and made to serve as private Dominant-for-hire somewhere in the former Soviet Union. Will the sexual powers Rostovich helped awaken in her be Nancy’s only hope for escape?

My Review

3.5 Star

I was excited to read The Domino Effect because the synopsis intrigued me. Going into it, I thought I would love it because let's be honest I devoured 50 Shades of Grey (all three books) in less than 18 hours and they seemed to be similiar themed books. Hughes does a great job setting the back drop of Cleaveland and what it's like for Nancy as she struggles to pay bills, finish school and set up her portfolio since she's an aspiring journalist. Peter Rostovich was a strong male character and I found his evasiveness and approach to be rather sexy. Especially since he had some clear dealing in things that may not be on the "up and up." However, I found the commonalities between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele (from 50 Shades) to be overwhelming. They share the same qualities but have different jobs. They even meet in the exact same sort of situations. Nancy does her bestfriend/roommate a favor and ends up falling into Rostovich's immensely wealthy lap. Oh and of course, Nancy is a virgin.

But I did like the plot and the way that the stories differed. Minus the fact that the cast reminded me of 50 Shades. I liked how the progression between Nancy and Peter's relationship fit their character's personalities and was realistic. reflecting on my own experiences, I could totally relate to Nancy in some areas and she definitely had me as a cheerleader. She knew what she was getting into (being a journalist she possesses some natural instincts and questions everything) and she still took it on head first, refusing to give up. When she gets kidnapped and shipped off to a foreign country under duress, I was proud of how she handled herself and glad that Hughes didn't bend Nancy in a different direction because her reactions were so fitting. I high fived her in my mind for not becoming a complete mess and breaking down.

The thing I loved the most about The Domino Effect was the way Hughes wrote her. Her writing style provided a different perspective into these themed books. The scenes with sex were done in a way I haven't read before and for me, that was really cool. Instead of just seeing the chemistry between Nancy and Peter during the sexy scenes, Hughes also delivered the emotional side of their actions. Reading what was going through Nancy's head, her reactions, doubt, wonder and everything else when you're new to the BDSM theme (and sex in general) allowed me to really connect with her. Granted there was a scene thrown in there when she was being kidnapped and the next thing I knew she was having a fantasy dream when the last thing I read, she was in the middle of a conversation. Other than that, the plot is well paced and leaves only a couple loose ends (remember this is the first book in a series, so to me, the couple loose ends aren't really a big deal) but the cliffhanger at the end, is jaw dropping. I never saw that coming and the sudden change between loyalties to the "major players" towards the end was another great twist.

I just want to note that I believe some readers will love this story, it will fill them with butterflies and rainbows and squeal worthy moments. There were aspects that just weren't for me and some of the similarities in the beginning made it hard for me personally to connect to the story until halfway through. But I will be reading the second installment because I want to know what happens and how Nancy and Peter's story will unfold.

Awakening the Fire Cover Reveal

So I did totally gush about the cover for Empyreal Illusions (which is book one in the series) and now I'm going to gush about Awakening the Fire. I just love the designs Jake Bonsignore went with and think they really enhance and meld with the story. Now to show off Awakening the Fire and Empyreal Illusions then I'll totally re-post cover as well.

**See what did I tell you? Freaking AWESOME**

Book One Now

A little glimpse into cover art at it's best in my opinion. Love indie author covers <3

Quick wit fun with Desiree Deorto

This post is a glimpse into the girl behind the tweets, status updates and good reads. Desiree recently released The Prophecy which is a five star read through and through. After reading the ARC I was given, I wanted to know more about who wrote the book. Really it's a secret way to find out if we have anything in common beyond the book, so when I keep messaging her it's less crazy fangirl and more personable. Even though now it's not a secret...

When Desi isn't throwing confetti, she can be found glaring or falling over. She keeps her girlish figure by laughing her ass off.

"I'm a stay-at-home mother of four (no, it isn't very glamorous unless you have a fascination with diapers and baby puke)who finally decided to grow a pair and follow one of my passions: writing. I've been known to throw glitter and threaten people with unicorns. I hate writing biographies because they make me feel really 'look at me! Look at me!' when I'm really one of those '*waves hand* this is not the person you were looking for* type. I hope everyone enjoys my books, and look forward to providing more books that everyone will love!"

**^^^Yeah^^^She's that cool. We all have those moments (especially when grown up's who write play games that require you to say the first thing that comes to mind)

I asked Desi to play a little game with us. All she had to do was finish the sentence and her responses are priceless. If you have a clever sentence you’d like to see her finish, leave a comment and we’ll post Desiree’s response on our facebook page here:))!

1.            OMG I just saw… a hippopotamus

2.            I’m too cool for… clothes

3.            The tap dancing purple, blue and green lady bug just... did the monster mash

4.             Look out behind you its… GODZILLA! (with cheesy Japanese accent)

5.            Dear God look at the size of those… shoes! You know what they say wink

6.            I wish I could… fly, I wish I could touch the sky, think about it every night and day..... jams out

7.            I didn’t mean to… sing to you

8.            I hate it when people… look at you like you're from mars. Whenever they do that, look at them seriously and say 'You may think I'm from Mars, but really, I'm from Uranus'. Then calmly walk away. Facial expression is PRICELESS

How many times during school were you forced to “get to know” a random person in class? I know you have been because I’m in college and still have to do it. So I just added some more questions to my compiled list and made Desiree answer some. She writes some amazing stories, so getting to know her sounded like a fun next step. If you have a question for Desiree or a “finish the sentence” starter comment below and we’ll post the answers here

1.            If you could be a book character (not from your book) who would you be?

Cat in Jeanine Frost's books because Bones is freaking hot and she's a total bad ass.

2.            What’s your favorite pizza toppings?

I love love LOVE veggie pizza's.  Extra cheese is a must!

3.            Favorite ice cream?

I really don't have a favorite, though I just found out that Ben and Jerry's came out with coffee ice cream O.O Would totally consume that like a BEAST!

4.            What’s your ideal ice cream sundae consist of?

Hmm... probably lots of fudge (drown it!), tons of whipped cream (just give me the can) and a million cherries with tons of pecans!

5.            What was your first car?

A 2000 VW Beetle.  Adorably lime green. Jeremy (my boyfriend) said that it looked like it was smiling at you. It creeped him out, but I loved it.  Plus it had turbo! It was small, but mighty!

And nobody forgot the bookish questions! They’re right here and Desiree might talk a little more about The Prophecy from the deleted scene shared earlier this week here...

1.            Do you have any writing rituals or certain things you do to aid your writing process?

Yes, I have to have poster board in order to map out my story lines, and I also do full psychological profiles on all my characters, even the minor ones. Oh, and I can't edit without red pens.  Don't know why, but I just can't do it.

2.            Favorite snack and thing to drink while you write?

Coffee is a definite whenever I write, and whenever I need 'brain food' I always eat Tostino's frozen pizza. I'm going to end up getting HUGE lol

3.            Do you listen to music while you’re writing?

Sometimes I do, but I tend to zone it out. I prefer absolute silence while writing.

4.            Who is your favorite character from any or your books and why?

Oh geeze. Um, I would have to say Brandon because of how great of a supporting character he is.  It's hard for me to have a definite favorite though because all of them are going to be going through so much and change dramatically from the beginning of the book to the end.  And, of course, I'm evil and kill some of them off.  Prepare your torches! You guys are going to have a love/hate relationship with me ;)

Now take a look at her masterpiece!

Don't Bite the Bridesmaid Review

Okay my pretties. I posted this review on all the *official sites* but never managed to put it on the blog. So since I have some free time and you need to read this book, I'm going to post it now!

When I was given the opportunity to review Don't Bite the Bridesmaid for Entangled Covet I was really excited. It's been a while since I've read a vampire book and what better kind to read than one with a sexy swoon worthy vamp that you know will have some even sexier moments.

image

**Yes, yes I did use pink ponies to show my excitement**

Don't Bite the Bridesmaid

by Tiffany Allee

4 Stars

Noah…where can I find me a Noah. Please tell me if you see him around. I read this book in one sitting. Two if you count the time I spared for dinner and cleaning up afterwards. This book captured me from the very beginning and not only I swoon for Noah, but I found myself rooting for Alice. Who am I kidding, there were quite a few moments I wished I was Alice! Don’t Bite the Bridesmaid was an amazing read and I couldn’t read it fast enough. I found myself checking my progress a couple times in the beginning hoping I wasn’t too close to the end yet and then at about 70%, I couldn’t bring myself to acknowledge the end was approaching quickly.

image

The plot blossomed from the first page developing quickly. Things passed full speed ahead and it really added to the total awesomeness that was Don’t Bite the Bridesmaid. The whole story is spun based on Alice who’s been Noah’s neighbor for five years but now she needs a favor from Noah. In fact that very agreement haunts them both for a while, just enough to make you wonder what’s really going to happen in the story. Tiffany Allee brought Noah, Alice, Cindy, Brent, Edna and more come to life with witty dialogue and the best week long wedding event. We all know how family can be and you must read this book to find out all the possible ways things could go. Allee builds scenes with ease that draw you in. Especially when its Noah and Alice interacting. I’d advise that if you read this in public and grinning is not something you normally do, you may get some probing. There will be a smile on your face and a squeal in your throat.

image

**There are quite a few of those moments^^ yup, the ones where you grin, clutch your heart and brace yourself for what's to come**

In a couple spots I was confused by the writing momentarily. It was like the narrative switched from third person to first person and I wasn’t really clear. However it’s not enough to worry about or that really hinder the story as a whole. Just a sentence here or there a few times, probably because the third person aspect switched from someone watching her, to someone watching him. But I still fell in love and absolutely loved reading every minute of this book.  There also was a back story with Alice’s brother that’s added in there, that left me wondering if I missed a story or a paragraph. I see where it’s meant to strengthen the story and explain why Alice reacts how she does, but the way it was introduced took me out of the story briefly. Seriously though my pretties this book was a great, fast paced story filled with angst, a lovable wedding party and some sexy moments.

image

I’m actually hoping that there could be a second book in their story (but don’t fear, Don’t Bite the Bridesmaid’s ending is wrapped up nicely). I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention that there was a twist in here that caused me some panic. I never saw it coming, it wasn’t even in my line of thought. I couldn’t believe Allee did that to me or to Alice and Noah! The best thing I can tell you is to grab a copy, clear your to-do list, grab a drink and prepare to be swept away.

**Oh and I chatted with Tiffany Allee during a #CovetBash Twitter chat and great news my pretties...there IS going to be more books in the series! *eek*

Bailey Ardisone is a collaboration between two sisters who were born and raised outside of Chicago, Illinois. They combined their creative forces to write the first book in their series, called Sweet Oblivion. Though the name Bailey Ardisone applies to both of them, for the sake of answering questions they will each take on one of the names to make things easier.

She loves going to the beach, enjoys football sundays, and spending time with friends and family.

The younger sister of the two in Bailey Ardisone, has always held a strong love for anything art related. Whether it be drawing, music, or constantly day-dreaming, her mind never stops imagining wonderful stories and possibilities. She finally got to put some of those ideas to use with her new found love of writing novels. Some other things she is forever obsessed with are Japanese Anime and Manga, animals, traveling, her home city of Chicago and anything in miniature form. One thing she can never get enough of is sleeping/taking naps and sour skittles.

-About Sweet Oblivion-

Nari hates everything about her life, except for her best friend Rydan, but now that they’ve been separated during their senior year of high school, she has to learn to make new friends without him. When strange, unexplainable phenomena start becoming an every day part of her life, Nari struggles to come to grips with reality. And with love.
~

But when a glimmer of hope is introduced to her by a prisoner she tends to, it means life or death for her and her people. She does all that she can to turn that hope into reality, and finally end the vicious war that has been ensuing since she was born. Even if that means keeping it secret from her King. Even if it means carrying out the biggest betrayal against the King ever seen during her time.

She has hope. She will fulfill her duty. She will not let her people down.

-Excerpt-

~Nari~

I suddenly felt anxious, excited even, at the prospect of laying eyes on Mycah again. On being enveloped in his woodsy scent. The way my soul felt complete and whole again only his presence alone could accomplish. ...Were we really just friends?
And then there he was.
As I took the last stair, his eyes found mine from the "Greeting Room" he quietly sat in, drinking from an antique teacup.
He watched me carefully as he slowly put the cup to his alluring lips and took a sip. My heart danced wildly in my chest with every step I took, drawing closer and closer.
I waved at him, not able to speak just yet.
“Morning, beautiful,” he whispered. His English accent made the words sound musical. Or maybe it was his silky voice that did it. Or it could have been the combination of the two, I really didn’t know. Either way, my stomach did a flip.
And then I thought, it must have been the way he was looking at me, not even trying to hide the desire that flooded his aqua eyes as soon as they locked onto mine.
The sun played with his eyes, bringing out the unique colors and making them more vivid. Even though he was lit up by the streaming sun that shone brightly through the large bay window, he never looked more dangerous.
And he never looked more sexy.
Well, that could be debatable.
I mean, if you wanted to count the time he was dripping wet and practically naked, well then, one really couldn’t say.
But this moment was definitely a top contender for first place.

He stood up, keeping perfect posture and foreign demeanor exquisitely intact, and came over to me.
“You alright?” he asked, lips pulling up in a side smile. I nodded, half hating the spell he always put me under, half totally loving it.

He reached out and slowly slid his hand into mine, intertwining our fingers together and pulling me toward the front door. He chuckled and slightly shook his head at the ground.

I laid mesmerized from the position on my back, staring up at the cloudless sky. It was as blue as a Robin’s egg. If not more blue. The sun shown extremely bright, but the rays did not scorch my skin. The air was comfortable. Very comfortable. It was the perfect temperature. Warm, without being too warm, and no humidity.
I did not move.
I was afraid to move in case this was all just a dream and any slight stir would make it vanish, throwing me back into tormented reality. It must be a dream, right? Clearly, I had busted my head against the tree trunk and knocked myself out...And I was only imagining this while Zaylie, I was sure, was worried and trying to wake me up.
Right?
I could feel the grass beneath me. Soft, lush, exquisite. As if I laid against the perfect bed made just for me. I was Goldilocks and it was just right.
A colorful bird soared above me. But as it descended closer, obscuring my view of the sky, I realized it was not actually a bird at all. It was the strangest butterfly I had ever seen. Its wings were a rainbow of colors - and it was huge. Bird-like huge.
But I didn’t feel frightened or grossed out like I usually did by insects. This was different. It felt different here. The butterfly flapped its wings so gently and effortlessly. I numbly reached up while it landed weightlessly on my fingers.

The moment it touched me and started cleaning its antennae, even though I could barely feel it on me, I got the striking feeling that this was real. Very real. I quickly sat up, causing the vivid butterfly to take flight again and gazed around the beauteous expanse encircling me.
