Entanglement by Dan Rix- Review time

*He actually changed the cover right before I posted my original review over on Supagurls and it was a great decision. This one relates to the story so much more and it's more intriguing in my opinion.

Blurb

"...the scientific explanation is quantum entanglement, whereby the boy and girl—even when separated by great distances—react instantaneously to changes in each other's states..." —Dr. Casler Selavio, on the entanglement of halves.

In a world like ours, humans are born in pairs. When a newborn boy takes his first breath in the coastal town of Tularosa, the exact time is noted, recorded in the Registry, and later compared to the birth times of other newborns around the globe. There will be one identical match—his half. They will meet on their eighteenth birthday and they will spend their lives together. Except this time, there is no match.

Hotheaded heartthrob Aaron Harper is scheduled to meet his half in twenty-nine days, and he doesn’t buy a word of that entanglement crap. So what if he and his half were born the same day and share a spooky psychic connection? Big deal. After breaking one too many teenage girls’ hearts, he’ll stick to brawling with the douchebag rugby players any day.
Until the day a new girl arrives at school and threatens everything he takes for granted.

Cold and unapproachable, Amber Lilian hates the growing list of similarities between her and the one boy she can’t read, Aaron: born the same day, both stubborn, both terrified of meeting their halves. . . . All the more reason not to trust him. That she would rather die than surrender herself as her half’s property is none of his damn business. But once lost in Aaron’s dangerous, jet black eyes, she’s already surrendered more than she cares to admit.

Tangled in each other’s self-destructive lives, Aaron and Amber learn the secret behind their linked births and why they feel like halves—but unless they can prove it before they turn eighteen, Aaron faces a lifetime alone in a world where everyone else has a soul mate . . . and he’ll have to watch Amber give herself to a boy who intends to possess not only her body but also a chunk of her soul.

My Review

4.5 Stars

I was attracted to the story from the beginning; Dan Rix wasted no time diving head first into a plot that kept my head spinning. It was well thought out and the world Rix created in Entanglement and the concept was intricate and suspenseful. I was engulfed by the first few chapters and drawn into Aaron Harper’s world where halves are determined when you’re born. There’s no choice, you have no say and on your eighteenth birthday you meet the other half of your soul. Except Aaron doesn’t buy the “halves” concept and neither does the new girl he meets Amber Lilian.

Entanglement is full of complex characters and a web weaved with secrets, destinies, tangled life lines and two teenagers fighting for their rights and each other. Both Aaron and Amber are trapped in their own downward spiral of self-destruction when they meet, each of them giving up for their own reasons. I loved everything from the fast pace, intricate characters, and  the detailed concept Rix created. Oh, how the story began unfolding at an alarming rate after they meet as they continue stirring up more trouble than they could imagine trying to save each other before it’s too late. Aaron Harper or number eleven is a strong willed, teenage heart throb that any girl will fall for and there’s something about his character that sucked me in and I wanted to know more, to see what made fueled his temper. Amber is feisty and just as engaging, she fights everybody the entire time, she never gave up and was just as smart as Aaron and they complimented each other. The snappy dialogue and complicated relationships and circumstances kept me guessing. The supporting characters were a delight because I was never sure who was good or evil and if anybody (or who I expected) was going to step in. Dan Rix’s use of their roles and ambiguity about their true loyalties made the story even more thrilling and detailed.

oh my god gifs photo: Kame oh my god omgbobo3393.gif

*Seriously this is how I felt with almost every turn of the page. I probably even made the same face.*

I really enjoy stories like this where at the end everything comes together smoothly and blends until you’re convinced you just witnessed the whole thing literally. Entanglement was full of those wonderful awkwardly amazing moments that steal your breath and demand you keep reading until the wee hours of the morning and I even found myself holding my breath scared to keep reading.

begging gifs photo: Rachel-begging.gif

*and then of course there was this face and my begging that what I was reading wasn't really true and that it was a trick.

At one point I thought the entire book changed and as I kept reading I realized Dan Rix did introduce something that changed everything and the need to finish the book was undeniable. I tuned everything out from my step-mom to the radio in the background and all I heard was the words as I kept reading. Completely lost in the story and fidgeting with excitement. My heart is still throbbing from the explosive ending to Entanglement.

My favorite line and I highlighted a bunch was “the task is not to see what no one has yet seen; but to think what nobody has yet thought about that which everybody sees.”

Quick wit fun with Desiree Deorto

This post is a glimpse into the girl behind the tweets, status updates and good reads. Desiree recently released The Prophecy which is a five star read through and through. After reading the ARC I was given, I wanted to know more about who wrote the book. Really it's a secret way to find out if we have anything in common beyond the book, so when I keep messaging her it's less crazy fangirl and more personable. Even though now it's not a secret...

When Desi isn't throwing confetti, she can be found glaring or falling over. She keeps her girlish figure by laughing her ass off.

"I'm a stay-at-home mother of four (no, it isn't very glamorous unless you have a fascination with diapers and baby puke)who finally decided to grow a pair and follow one of my passions: writing. I've been known to throw glitter and threaten people with unicorns. I hate writing biographies because they make me feel really 'look at me! Look at me!' when I'm really one of those '*waves hand* this is not the person you were looking for* type. I hope everyone enjoys my books, and look forward to providing more books that everyone will love!"

**^^^Yeah^^^She's that cool. We all have those moments (especially when grown up's who write play games that require you to say the first thing that comes to mind)

I asked Desi to play a little game with us. All she had to do was finish the sentence and her responses are priceless. If you have a clever sentence you’d like to see her finish, leave a comment and we’ll post Desiree’s response on our facebook page here:))!

1.            OMG I just saw… a hippopotamus

2.            I’m too cool for… clothes

3.            The tap dancing purple, blue and green lady bug just... did the monster mash

4.             Look out behind you its… GODZILLA! (with cheesy Japanese accent)

5.            Dear God look at the size of those… shoes! You know what they say wink

6.            I wish I could… fly, I wish I could touch the sky, think about it every night and day..... jams out

7.            I didn’t mean to… sing to you

8.            I hate it when people… look at you like you're from mars. Whenever they do that, look at them seriously and say 'You may think I'm from Mars, but really, I'm from Uranus'. Then calmly walk away. Facial expression is PRICELESS

How many times during school were you forced to “get to know” a random person in class? I know you have been because I’m in college and still have to do it. So I just added some more questions to my compiled list and made Desiree answer some. She writes some amazing stories, so getting to know her sounded like a fun next step. If you have a question for Desiree or a “finish the sentence” starter comment below and we’ll post the answers here

1.            If you could be a book character (not from your book) who would you be?

Cat in Jeanine Frost's books because Bones is freaking hot and she's a total bad ass.

2.            What’s your favorite pizza toppings?

I love love LOVE veggie pizza's.  Extra cheese is a must!

3.            Favorite ice cream?

I really don't have a favorite, though I just found out that Ben and Jerry's came out with coffee ice cream O.O Would totally consume that like a BEAST!

4.            What’s your ideal ice cream sundae consist of?

Hmm... probably lots of fudge (drown it!), tons of whipped cream (just give me the can) and a million cherries with tons of pecans!

5.            What was your first car?

A 2000 VW Beetle.  Adorably lime green. Jeremy (my boyfriend) said that it looked like it was smiling at you. It creeped him out, but I loved it.  Plus it had turbo! It was small, but mighty!

And nobody forgot the bookish questions! They’re right here and Desiree might talk a little more about The Prophecy from the deleted scene shared earlier this week here...

1.            Do you have any writing rituals or certain things you do to aid your writing process?

Yes, I have to have poster board in order to map out my story lines, and I also do full psychological profiles on all my characters, even the minor ones. Oh, and I can't edit without red pens.  Don't know why, but I just can't do it.

2.            Favorite snack and thing to drink while you write?

Coffee is a definite whenever I write, and whenever I need 'brain food' I always eat Tostino's frozen pizza. I'm going to end up getting HUGE lol

3.            Do you listen to music while you’re writing?

Sometimes I do, but I tend to zone it out. I prefer absolute silence while writing.

4.            Who is your favorite character from any or your books and why?

Oh geeze. Um, I would have to say Brandon because of how great of a supporting character he is.  It's hard for me to have a definite favorite though because all of them are going to be going through so much and change dramatically from the beginning of the book to the end.  And, of course, I'm evil and kill some of them off.  Prepare your torches! You guys are going to have a love/hate relationship with me ;)

Now take a look at her masterpiece!

-Excerpt-

~Nari~

I suddenly felt anxious, excited even, at the prospect of laying eyes on Mycah again. On being enveloped in his woodsy scent. The way my soul felt complete and whole again only his presence alone could accomplish. ...Were we really just friends?
And then there he was.
As I took the last stair, his eyes found mine from the "Greeting Room" he quietly sat in, drinking from an antique teacup.
He watched me carefully as he slowly put the cup to his alluring lips and took a sip. My heart danced wildly in my chest with every step I took, drawing closer and closer.
I waved at him, not able to speak just yet.
“Morning, beautiful,” he whispered. His English accent made the words sound musical. Or maybe it was his silky voice that did it. Or it could have been the combination of the two, I really didn’t know. Either way, my stomach did a flip.
And then I thought, it must have been the way he was looking at me, not even trying to hide the desire that flooded his aqua eyes as soon as they locked onto mine.
The sun played with his eyes, bringing out the unique colors and making them more vivid. Even though he was lit up by the streaming sun that shone brightly through the large bay window, he never looked more dangerous.
And he never looked more sexy.
Well, that could be debatable.
I mean, if you wanted to count the time he was dripping wet and practically naked, well then, one really couldn’t say.
But this moment was definitely a top contender for first place.

He stood up, keeping perfect posture and foreign demeanor exquisitely intact, and came over to me.
“You alright?” he asked, lips pulling up in a side smile. I nodded, half hating the spell he always put me under, half totally loving it.

He reached out and slowly slid his hand into mine, intertwining our fingers together and pulling me toward the front door. He chuckled and slightly shook his head at the ground.

-Excerpt-

~Nari~

I laid mesmerized from the position on my back, staring up at the cloudless sky. It was as blue as a Robin’s egg. If not more blue. The sun shown extremely bright, but the rays did not scorch my skin. The air was comfortable. Very comfortable. It was the perfect temperature. Warm, without being too warm, and no humidity.
I did not move.
I was afraid to move in case this was all just a dream and any slight stir would make it vanish, throwing me back into tormented reality. It must be a dream, right? Clearly, I had busted my head against the tree trunk and knocked myself out...And I was only imagining this while Zaylie, I was sure, was worried and trying to wake me up.
Right?
I could feel the grass beneath me. Soft, lush, exquisite. As if I laid against the perfect bed made just for me. I was Goldilocks and it was just right.
A colorful bird soared above me. But as it descended closer, obscuring my view of the sky, I realized it was not actually a bird at all. It was the strangest butterfly I had ever seen. Its wings were a rainbow of colors - and it was huge. Bird-like huge.
But I didn’t feel frightened or grossed out like I usually did by insects. This was different. It felt different here. The butterfly flapped its wings so gently and effortlessly. I numbly reached up while it landed weightlessly on my fingers.

The moment it touched me and started cleaning its antennae, even though I could barely feel it on me, I got the striking feeling that this was real. Very real. I quickly sat up, causing the vivid butterfly to take flight again and gazed around the beauteous expanse encircling me.

Promise Me This Review

**BTW If I have "missed" a post, PLEASE let me know because I had to get a new computer and I lost everything on my old laptop. Reviews, WIP, calendar and such is all gone-I'm trying to catch up. So If I missed yours please email me so I can add it to my list. Now onto the BEST part of my weekend:

Promise Me This

by Sarah Ashley Jones

**FYI The Cover Whore is me LOVES PMT's cover. The fact that the models on it are her real friends, makes me wish we were really friends. :))

Synopsis:

WARNING: This book is intended for mature readers due to strong language and sexual situations.

Welcome to the South - where the tea is sweet and the accents are sweeter. This Southern way of life is all Charlie has ever known. It’s not until she loses the only person who pushed her to break free of the Southern Belle mold that she starts living the life she needs and not the life her parents forced on her.

Jhett has lived on the edge for as long as he could remember - constantly teetering back and forth between being a rock star and living a normal life. His rebellious and sometimes arrogant attitude is known to get him into trouble, especially with the girls who hang on his every move.

Charlie never thought that a trip to pack up her brother’s apartment would leave her feeling even more unsettled about the grainy details of her brother’s death. Her quest for information leads her straight to his old hangout and into arms of Jhett, who suspiciously knows more about her situation than he ever should.

Only a few questions remain - Can you trust someone based on their word alone? And if you make a promise, how far will you go to keep it?

My Review

5 Stars

**Just dive in. I did. It was an AMAZING story**

Okay so I want to get this done in time for release day and I sincerely hope I do Sarah Ashley Jones and her novel Promise Me This, justice because I’ve sat here for twenty two minutes staring at a blank screen. I mean I even took notes. There are page numbers all over my hand…I flipping made my very first *fangirl* picture, in case you were unsure about how I was feeling. It was a really good book, Sarah Ashley Jones delivered so much more than I even expected, that I’m still struggling with the perfect words.

**Promise Me This was my personal paradise**

Jhett and Charlie’s backstory’s and mannerisms are complicated in multiple aspects, tangled throughout their worlds are Cameron, Ginger and Hannah. All of whom tie their own knots in the plot and leave their own signature on each of the main character’s lives. Besides being a cover whore (and PMT’s cover is gorgeous, that I actually had to message Sarah after I saw her reveal and tell her how much I Loved it, kind of like a *bookish creeper* moment)!

Hang out with us this summer! XOXO, @SummerBreak

**Okay so she reminded me of Charlie and her spirit**

She broke my heart, piece by piece. Each page I turned, the deeper into their stories I read, the more enthralled with PMT I became. Sarah made the right decision alternating points of views between Jhett and Charlie. Both added a depth of their own to the characters they represented and by the end, every detail and insight given played a role in character development and the fluency of the plot. Charlie is an energetic, passionate, wear-your-heart-on-your-sleeve kind of girl and her moments of shortcomings, regret and self-discovery we’re alive on the paper. I connected with Charlie immediately and connected with the story just as fast. Sarah doesn’t leave you waiting or giving you all the answers you think you want in the beginning. The lives they share are realistic and described with ease. I could not quit reading PMT. I had to know more.

“The thing about Charlie was that she was passionate in everything she did. Whether she was happy, sad, mad, or excited; it didn’t matter…I knew how she felt about me; I could feel it emanating off of her.”-Jhett

“If you need to know one thing about me, Charlie, it’s that I’ll always be myself, no matter what others might want me to be.”--Jhett

Jhett is difficult in the best of ways. Uh, he’s the guy you want to claim, and let’s be honest sometimes tame. But his points of view grow throughout the story and you see how Charlie sees him changing. All the while Jhett has to face his own demons while helping Charlie battle hers and those are some of my favorite quotes and moments in the entire book.

** Jhett is this week's BB. He may even last longer than a week. Just so freaking *breathes* hott and swoon worthy, everything about him screams sex appeal WITHOUT being cocky and "too" sexy. Muah. I'm in love. seriously. #JhettMafia**

In quite a few spots you’ll wonder if they’re fighting in vain and where their relationship is going to end. I loved how Sarah portrayed Jhett and although he is strong, smart and a musician, but he’s not in the story to solely save Charlie. You really need to read it to understand the connections made. Now a swoon moment:

“I only hoped that I could live up to what she needed me to be. I never wanted to be the reason for her to feel anything less than the way she did in that very moment.”

Sarah really drives the knife home, making Promise Me This remarkable with the last quarter of the book. So much happens, most of which I never saw coming. And the one spot I stood a chance of getting correct, I completely missed. I have no idea what I was thinking. The twists that show themselves later, to me are some of the most key elements, that I thought I should have seen coming! The ending to Promise Me This is a completely different ending then I ever could have imagined. It’s beautifully written, flawlessly executed and I enjoyed everything. With the way PMT ends, I’ll be hanging on the edge of my seat for book two.

**So tell me, what's your Summer story?

Top Ten Bad Boys via Michelle Miller

So I'm sorry I took this down for an hour but during class, I got an email that said the pictures weren't showing up. Just the outlines and Michelle has some great photos for the ultimate effect.<3

Top Ten Bad Boys

Who loves a bad boy?  *raises hand and jumps up and down* Me! Me!  Oh pick meee!  Whether it be on TV, movies or in books- a good bad boy is hard not to love.  Today I thought I would share ten bad boys- and perhaps a girl or two- who make the good girls go bad ;) or at least they made me wanna go all numb…

Dylan McKay, Beverly Hills 90210 (the original)
I know he's not a book character but I had to add him because he was one of my first bad boy loves.  Dreamy Dylan started out on BH 90210 as the resident bad boy.  He was a rich surfer boy who channeled his inner James Dean.   Motorcycles, classic cars, alcohol and a serious disregard for authority all made him a magnet for good girl Brenda (and many others).  Of course like most bad boys he had a heart of gold once you chipped away at his exterior.  I was so in love with Dylan <3 *swoon*

Kaiden Rowe, The Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins

You want a bad boy?  How about the son of the Duke of Lust?  His job is to deflower innocent young things and he is made for doing it.  Drummer in a hot band, sexy British accent and he's a Nephilim (half angel).  I fell head over heals for this hottie in Sweet Evil.

“What do you want from me, Kai?”
“For starters?” His voice lowered to sexy, dangerous depths. “I want to introduce myself to every freckle on your body.”

Brennus DeGraham, The Premonition Series (starting in Book 2) by Amy Bartol

He's a Ganacaugh king with vampire fangs *click* and faerie magic. He is also baaadddd! He will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. What he wants is Evie. Torture at the tips of his fangs and fingers (his touch is magical) will render you completely useless. De Ye need more tellin'?

William Herondale, The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

The best part about this bad boy is that he is hilarious…
“Are you implying that shreds of my reputation remain intact?" Will demanded with mock horror. "Clearly I have been doing something wrong. Or not something wrong, as the case may be." He banged on the side of the carriage. "Thomas! We must away at once to the nearest brothel. I seek scandal and low companionship.”

A demon hunting killing machine with a huge chip on his shoulder.  He says and does things to make everyone, even his BFF Jem, hate him.  Or a truer statement would be hate to love him because you can't help but love him.

Damon Salvatore, The Vampire Diaries

Now obviously another TV show guy.  I know there are books but I haven't read them.  I can just say that if Damon makes vampires sexy.  I know there are a lot of Edward fans out there but Damon is a way better bad boy than Edward could ever be.  Sorry Twilight fans.

Cash and Nash, The Bad Boys Series by M Leighton

Well yes double your pleasure, double your fun. Who wouldn't want to read about hot bad boy twins? Just when you think your reading a simple steamy contemporary romance…BAM you get thrown a curve ball. This series is much more than a love story and Cash and Nash are much more than meets the eye.

Rose Hathaway, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I realize of course that she isn't a bad boy. LOL. Rose is a bad bad girl. She can kick serious butt, has quite the mouthy attitude and really doesn't care too much about her reputation. I mean really who can blame her boys are fun to kiss.

She also gets wrapped up with a few guys who are pretty bad themselves.

Jack McLachlan, Beauty From Pain by Georgia Cates

This playboy millionaire is nothing but trouble from the start. He will wine and dine you, buy you gifts, make your fantasies come true…and then leave you in the dust.

All he wants is a Pretty Woman style agreement. It is clear he has done this many many times. Could you handle the heat and then walk away?

Beau Vincent, The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines

Beau came immediately to mind when I thought about bad boys. Both of the Vincent boys are fabulous but as for swoon Beau wins! See what I wrote in my review:

As for the SWOON-o-meter I give these boys a 5 out of 5. I'm totally Team Beau in this book because he is as amazing as chocolate covered cherries which is pretty freaking amazing! He is a hot rebel boy who is so in love with Ashton that she wouldn't know what to do with herself if she understood the depth of his affection. Sawyer is the beautiful all-american good boy, intent on keeping his little woman safe, secure and happy. He is looking at the long term picture and while it sounds a bit boring it is totally sweet. He is certainly the one who mama and daddy want you to bring home. Beau, he is the one you sneak out the window for- not that I'm advocating this action ;)

Check out these boys. *Note I read before she added all of the extra steam to it :))

Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

WOW! Talk about bad boys and girls.  Ellie, Cam & Javier are all totally screwed up.  They are also all totally sexy and bad to the bone.  Cam is a bit on the softer side then the other two but he is still has some bad boy motives.

Read this book and the novella prequel 'On Every Street' (I would read it in the order Karina wrote it).   I think you will see why I added this one to my bad boys list.

So there you have it…my bad boys (and girls) list.  There are SOOO many books out there with bad boys that I really struggled to make the list.  I also came to the conclusion that I have a lot of catching up to do.  Who is your favorite bad boy?
